Is Macau an island or a peninsula?
Historically, the Portuguese colony of Macau has been located on the Macau Peninsula since the early 16th century.
It was only at the beginning of the 20th century that the islands of Taipa and Coloane Island joined Macau.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the islands of Taipa and Coloane were filled up with each other and turned into one large island.
So today Macau consists of a peninsula and an island.
